Mat Kvon And Jonny Castro are the Australian dance duo who both call Adelaide home where the two met 12 years ago. There first EP ‘Can’t get better than this’ captivated Australia and the world. Both Mat and Johnny played every major festival in Australia and in Europe. ‘Can’t get better than this’ was the first and most play song on Triple J in 2012. Parachute Youth has a warm positive Indie dance vibe, that even Triple Js Zan Rowe described as a “warm beat-sie hug every time I hear it”. Following the gold record success in multiple regions of their debut single, their follow on singles ‘Awake now’, ‘Count to ten’ and ‘Runaway’ confirmed their place on the charts and in people’s hearts. During the first two years since the two first worked together they teamed up with a completely blown away Ajax from Sweat it Out Records, who 100% is credited with unearthing Parachute Youth to finish the single “Cant get Better Than This”, with the additional genius of Sam La More. At times it was a difficult process, Sweat not wanting to curb the raw appeal of the group, but in the end Parachute Youth prevailed. A wonderfully hypnotic celebration of life, a song soaring with unbridled joy, dark melancholy and drama reverbed. Mat and Johnny cite their influences as Joy Division/New Order, The Human League, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, The Stone Roses, the sound is completely modern and contemporary swallowing up huge tracts of musical vision. Since the band’s split back in 2014. Johnny has been living in London and has worked with some of the finest writers and artists including,Liam Payne (One Direction) / Mabel / Gracey / Icona Pop / Sonny Fodera / Sigala / Joel Corry / MNEK / 220 Kid / Goodboys / A7S / Becky Hill / Simba / Dyo / JP Cooper / Gavin James / Mae Muller / Shells / Bully / Karen Harding / Alex Adair / Cailin Russo / MoreNight / Paul Harris (Dirty Vegas) / Jasmine Thompson. Johnny has seen major success recently. Just last year John Co-wrote and Co-Produced Joel Corry’s “Head & Heart” which was a global hit reaching number one in 13 countries and reaching Multi Platinum sales in 8 countries and Gold in 9 countries. Also reaching One Billion streams on combined platforms, it held the record for the longest UK number one song in 2020 staying 6 weeks at the top. Now back on home soil in Australia it seems fate put John back in contact with old band mucker and super producer Mat Kvon. They have firmly decided it’s time for Parachute Youth to rise again and hit the road again. Given what the world has been through and after six years of silence, PY are back to deliver more ‘sonic hugs’!
